This doesn’t look cheap or simple to make.

Unusual glass is fun. Hard to obtain unusual glass is even more fun. I’d love one of these, but the glass does give me pause for that reason...

I mean, I wouldn’t expect it to be that different than making any of piece of curved rear class, which all have bends and non-straight edges? Granted I know very little about how auto glass is made, but my feeling would be that everything is pretty hard, and generally speaking it would be volume of orders that would drive costs.

Just don’t break it.
Or, get comprehensive on it. Then, if glass breaks, either it’s covered or the car is totaled , giving you enough money to buy... another SVX.

Pretty much this. The added
trimming
to create this shape isn’t expensive in itself, but setting up the assembly line to accommodate these extra steps, for a tiny production run, is what would make it costly.

At least the windshield, the piece most likely to be damaged in normal use, is a normal shape.

What do you think of my hand-application skills? I’m almost good enough for the Toyota Century
Takumi assembly line.

Jeez, you pay $4000 extra for the ‘Deviated Rear Window Trim in Red’ and they totally screw it up......

i don’t remember if my step dad’s SVX ever needed a windshield. I’m sure it did at one point. But that was pre 2000 so they were probably available. The side glass... not so much.

Definitely an odd shape, but shouldn’t be that much harder to make than any other piece. You have to program the cutting and grinding wheels anyway. A few extra curves is just a few extra lines of code. The bottom left point does look a bit troubling, but if you get a good score, shouldn't be an issue. Then the glass has to go in the oven on a die anyway. It's far less crazy than the rear window on your old red car

The two earliest Countach LP400 proto types had two piece door windows. This was apparently very difficult to make and they switched to the more known three window design. The g reen one is the second prototype and it still exists.

Amazingly, you can still get the windshield and the rear glass. T he windshield glass is only available in the green tint ( newer production, too ) . The SVX had three different tints of glass available during its production run: Blue for black interior cars, Bronze for tan interior cars and for Claret cars, and green for base model cars regardless of interior color. The Blue and Bronze tint glass was titanium oxide coated for UV blocking ( which also blocked EZ-Pass style toll collectors from functioning ) . The green glass is the cheapest to produce, so that’s likely why that’s the one they keep around. Interestingly, the rear glass is listed as blue - I suspect that those are old stock.
All the side glass is NLA, and has been for quite a while.
